I love Gundam Wing and I admire Relena Peacecraft. She's such a strong female character! She's independent, courageous, and fights for what she believes in. What's not to like?
I've wanted to cosplay her for a long time. I chose her school uniform from the early episodes because I like the colors. Plus, I've rarely seen this outfit done before. Most of the Relena cosplayers I've seen tend to do her Cinq Kingdom outfit. The costume consists of 3 parts:
- jacket with puffed sleeves (aka Juliet sleeves)
- long skirt with 2 black stripes
- white blouse with ruffled neck and ruffled cuffs
The most irritating part of making this costume is the puffed sleeves. In my opinion, the puffed sleeves don't match the reference pictures exactly. I couldn't figure out how to make the sleeve puff using just one cut of fabric. So you can see the seam in the middle of the sleeve. Puffed sleeves are EVIL. I detest making sleeves because fitting the sleeve to the garment is difficult. But puffed sleeves are 10 times worse!
The skirt and jacket are made of burgundy gabardine. The jacket is fully lined. The blouse is made of a slinky polyester - which made it difficult to work with. The fabric kept sliding. There was very little friction to hold it in place!
