Miaka is the heroine of Fushigi Yuugi. She loves to eat! So we have something in common!
I'm very proud of this costume. I paid a lot of attention to detail while I was making it. The gold button on her bow tie matches the one in the reference pictures exactly. Plus, the welt pocket on the left breast of her jacket is a real pocket that is the perfect size for credit cards!
The costume consists of 4 parts:
- short jacket with welt pocket
- brown vest
- satin bow tie with gold button
- pleated skirt
The white shirt was purchased, as were the knee high socks and shoes. Actually, finding the right pair of Mary-Janes was an adventure in itself. I must have dragged my brother into every shoe store at the mall! Luckily, he was a good sport about it all. ^_^
The jacket and vest are both fully lined. Everything, except the bow tie, is machine washable.
Since I had extra fabric - the cotton suiting was on sale! $2.00/yd! - I made 2 copies of this costume. One is for myself. The other has been auctioned off on eBay.
Update: October 2005
After styling my hair in odangos for my Tenten cosplay, I realized that my hair is now long enough for Miaka's hairstyle, too. Cool! Here are new pictures of my Miaka cosplay - now with accurate hair. My baby ended up in a few of these pictures. She loves shiny objects and wanted to play with my bow tie. Sometimes, she's just too cute. ^_^
